Cirium found that nearly 80.7% of the 457,871 flights at CLT departed as scheduled in 2022. That earned Charlotte Douglas an on-time ranking of No. 6 among U.S. airports. It landed at No. 10 among airports worldwide.
For American Airlines Group Inc., the dominant carrier at CLT, just shy of 78.3% of its 1,076,100 flights arrived on time. It placed fourth among North American airlines and tenth among global carriers.
American operates about 90% of flights at the Charlotte airport, where the Fort Worth, Texas-based carrier keeps its second-largest hub.
Tokyo's Haneda Airport held the top spot for on-time performance among global airports in 2022, with about 90% of flights arriving on time. Kempegowda International Airport in Karnataka, India, came in second place (84.08%). Salt Lake City International Airport ranked third (83.87%), while five additional U.S. airports appeared on the top-10 list: Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (82.62%), at No. 4; Philadelphia International Airport (82.54%), at No. 5; Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (81.95%), at No. 6; Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (81.04%), at No. 8; and CLT (80.68%), at No. 10.
Of those 10 airports, Charlotte Douglas had the highest number of total flights for 2022, according to Cirium's data.
